"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" (Matt. 7:1-5).

We often judge things and others based on our flimsy broken reasons and not based on the word of God. We believe that what we think is correct.

1. What is Judging?

As humans we often judge others. Many times this is a judgmental attitude that tears others down in order to build myself up.

We are first to see where we fall short and correct that with ourselves. We are to make judgments based on God’s Word under the guidance and control of the Holy Spirit.

2. How do we need to judge others?

Even before judging other, we have to examine ourselves. we are judging because we are critical or jealous. Unbroken bad habits and behavior patterns we see in ourselves or often times the same ones that we try to change in others. Before we can judge others we have to correct the mistakes and shortcomings in our own lives which will not leave much time to correct others. Many judge others to feel better than others. They are looking for validation here on earth and not in Heaven.

In the passage, the Phrasies were judging Jesus, however, the passage does not say that you shell never judge other. The Lord’s point was that a person should not be habitually critical or condemnatory of a speck of sawdust in someone’s eye when he was a plank. Judgement is sometimes needed, however, we have to be certain of our own lives first.

3. Why do we need to judge?

There are times that we as God's Children to judge. We are to oppose false prophets. we are to search the scriptures to insure that no false teaching is coming our way. We are not judging when we are using God’s Word to test by and if they fail the test they are exposed as the false prophets they are.

Therefore, we need to work hard to exercise Church discipline. We need to use God's word and need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to discipline oneself and the church members.

Instead of judging others and place ourselves above the others, we need to identify with the person as sinner and struggler. With the humble heart, we are to recognize being against to the temptation. We don't condemn others with the guilt, shame, and the wrath because we all are sinner. Furthermore, we need to see ourselves based on the God's standard each other to repentances.
