신시내티 다운타운에 위치한 OTR(Over the Rhine)에서 20여년간 생명수 교회(Living water Church)를 사역해 오시던 요한 김 선교사님(UC 물리학과 교수 겸임하다 작년에 은퇴)이 어제 아침, 65세의 나이에 그리이스(Greece)난민선교 가셨다가 갑자기 하나님의 품에 안기셨습니다. 우리 교회는 이 충격적인 소식을 듣고 화요일 새벽기도회 때부터 기도해 왔었습니다.

지난 주일에 난민촌에서 설교하시고 돌아와 머리가 아프시다더니, 월요일에 악화되었고, 화요일 아침에 의식을 잃게 되어 병원에 가셨지만, 회복되지 못하셨습니다. 작년 12월에 1차 심장수술, 다시 3월에 2차 수술을 하셨는데, 아직 온전하지 못한 상태였지만, 한번 연기한 난민선교여서 약속을 지키기 위해서 가셨다가 그 사역을 다 마치시고 하나님 나라에 가셨습니다.

고 김선교사님은 복음을 위해서 가난한 자들과 늘 함께 하며 그들을 품고 사랑의 삶을 친히 보여주셨던 분입니다. 이제 주님의 따뜻한 품에서 영원히 안식하시게 되었습니다. 갑자기 남편을 잃고, 아버지를 잃고, 형제를 잃은 유족들을 위해서 위로와 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

As many of you might have heard, Pastor Johann Kim became suddenly ill and hospitalized this past week in Athens. He was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday morning after collapsing. The doctors stated he suffered a non-operable brain bleed, which was fatal. Family members gathered to be with Sister Grace and he finally went to be with the Lord early in the morning on Saturday (4/20).

For the last month Pastor Johann and Sister Grace had been serving in Athens to minister to the refugees. Last December, Pastor Johann suffered a heart attack but made a miraculous recovery and after undergoing intense rehab, he was cleared to travel to Greece. He was convicted that it was God’s timing, perfect opportunity, and a great privilege to declare that Jesus is the Son of God with those from Muslim nations. He found great joy in seeing God move and in ministering to many refugees, especially from Iran.

We thank everyone who have been praying and thinking of us during this time. We know that it was Pastor Johann’s desire to give our Lord Jesus all the glory through his life and in his death.
