켄우드 크리스천 교회(Kenwood Christian Church)와 능력교회(Power Mission Baptist Church) 사이에 새겨진 하나님의 이야기”

“강물처럼 흐르는 하나님의 나라를 위하여”

 2001년 6월부터, 켄우드 크리스쳔 교회(이하 켄우드 교회)는 주님의 사랑 안에서 능력교회가 켄우드  교회의 예배당과 건물들을 함께 사용하는 것을 허락 하였습니다.  이후 두 교회는 이중 언어 (영어와 한국어)를 사용하는 예배를 연례적으로 함께 드렸고, 또 부활절 및 추수 감사절을 포함한 여러 행사를 함께 가졌습니다.

 비록 두 교회가 속한 교단은 달랐지만, 한 주님을 모시는 같은 믿음은 두 교회가 함께 주님께서 부탁하신 대사명 “그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 침례를 베풀고, 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라  (마태복음 28:19-20)”을 수행 할 수 있도록 하였습니다.

 2008년 8월 초에 켄우드 교회의 교회 운영위원회는 켄우드 교회의 교인수의 감소로 인하여 켄우드 교회를 부득이 해체 할 것을 결의하였습니다.  그러나 능력교회는 “성전에서 흘러 나오는 물과 흐르는 강 (에스겔 47:1-9)” 말씀에 근거하여 켄우드 교회의 해체가 아니라 켄우드 교회의 비젼과 소명이 능력교회에 이어서 계속 되어야 한다는 사역비젼을 제시하였습니다.  이에 켄우드 교회는 이를 기꺼이 동의하고, 은혜롭게 켄우드 교회의 예배당과 모든 부지를 능력교회에 거의 무상으로 증여하는 것을 결정하였습니다. 이에 따라 2008년 10월 28일자로 켄우드 교회의 예배당과 부지는 능력교회의 소유로 이전을 마치게 되었습니다.

 하나님의 은혜로 말미암아, 1956년 1월에 설립 된 켄우드 교회의 소명과 유산은 소멸되는 것이 아니라 능력교회의 사역을 통하여 주님이 다시 오실 때까지 지속 될 것입니다.

 본 기념판은 두 교회 사이에 나누어진 사랑을 기념하며, 능력교회가 하나님의 사랑을 다가 오는 세대에 계속 전하는 흐르는 강물이 될 것임을 다짐하며  여기에 새깁니다.

 “For The Kingdom of God that Flows Like a River”

 Since June of 2001, the Kenwood Christian Church allowed the Korean Power Mission Baptist Church to share their sanctuary and church building within the love of Jesus Christ.  Both congregations have held annual bilingual joint-services and shared their fellowship on Easter and Thanksgiving, as well as other numerous services.

 Although different denominations, the faith of the two churches, based on one Lord, allowed them to fulfill God’s great commission to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).”

 In October 2008, the Board of the Kenwood Christian Church decided to disband the church, but the Korean Power Mission Baptist Church offered to continue the vision and inspiration of the Kenwood Christian Church based on the scripture from The River from the Temple (Ezekiel 47:1-9), “Not disbanded, but flow to a new river.”  That same month, the Kenwood Christian Church graciously decided to give the church building and property to the Korean Power Mission Baptist Church mostly free, which led to the closing of transaction of the premises on October 28^th, 2008.

 Through the will and grace of God, may the heritage and vision of the Kenwood Christian Church be preserved and continued through the ministries of the Korean Power Mission Church until the coming of Jesus Christ.

 This memorial plaque is to hereby commemorate the love shared between the two congregations and inscribe that this church shall be dedicated to spreading God’s love, like a flowing river, to future generations.(If you want to know the story further, please read the memorial plaque that is positioned on the wall at the entrance of the church.)
